Old Man Named Cheerio

Anonymous asks readers of OCThen if they remember a guy in Santa Ana who went by the name, "Cheerio"...

Do you remember Cheerio? He was an old man who always seemed to hang around the parties in Santa Ana. Rumor had it that one of his kids was murdered which is why he told kids not to drink and drive. Do u guys remember him. I have always wondered what became of him.

  2. I knew him well. When Aldo and I worked at sav-on we used to give him rides home and rides to partys. He use to like to come in and hang out with all the employees,he would help out and pass all the party info along. His name is Kenny, last I heard of him he was living in a home and doing well. HIs story goe's He was some sort of Law enforcement and his wife was killed by a drunk driver who didnt have his lights on, she never saw him coming. thats why he always stood at the corner of edinger and main and would tell all the drivers to turn on their headlights. he was a real cool guy. a bit weird but cool.

  3. I also saw him at the O.C. Fair. I talked to him and asked him how he was doing. He said he hangs around the KFC on Bristol and Central. He also is on MySpace. Too funny!!! I hear alot of stories on how his wife and children died, so I'm curious as to what the real story is. By the way, when I saw him he had a t-shirt on that said, "Don't drink and drive." It was nice to see him.

  4. I see him at least a couple times a week as I drive west bound on Dyer/Segerstrom Ave. I do believe he lives in that particular area now. He is a lot thinner than he use to be. I see him talking to people young & old at bus stops and on the street. Drive/cruise by in the late afternoon or evening, you'll see him. He usually wears track suits.

  10. I don't know how to do a Facebook link but I belong to the Cherrio fan club (I think that's what it's called.) If anyone has pictures of him the creator of the page would appreciate them and plans to show Cherrio his page to let him know we all still remember him and appreciate his efforts. I hadn't heard about the drunk driver, just that it was a driver with no lights and his wife made a left turn because she didn't see him coming. I know I always remember my headlights--who knows maybe the life I saved was my own.
