An anonymous OCThen reader asks if anyone knows the name of a new wave club in Fullerton...
I'm looking for the name of a New Wave Club in Fullerton. Berlin used to play there with a lot of other bands in the late 70's John Scalzo wrote a newsletter called the Fullertone. It was across from CoCo's off of Stage College and....?If you have anything to add, please click on "Post a Comment" below...

Galaxy Roller Rink?
ReplyDeleteThe nightclub was call Ickbods or Eckbods(I know the spelling is incorrect)
ReplyDeleteit was located on Chapman & St.College Blvd in the Parking lot in front of College Bowl (college bowl had the best bloody-mary's there). Place ended up burning down in the mid 80's Burger King is now.... Remember Farrell's Ice Cream Palor in that same center.
It didn't burn down. I was at the club's last night. We stayed open till 3:00am or something like that. We didn't want to leave. They tore it down for the burger king. Sad day.
DeleteGoodies is the name of the club. Steve
ReplyDeletegoodies was the name of the club.Stevemcinteer@verizon.net
ReplyDeleteYes it was Ickbod's...I spent way too much time there. Farells?, what about orange julius, The Golden Cue Ball and Builders emporium? :)
ReplyDeleteIt was called Ichabod's, host to The Mechanics, Wall of Voodoo, R.E.M., Nu Beams, The Cramps, the list goes on.
ReplyDeleteIckabods was on the northeast corner of St College and Chapman, Goodies was on the west side of Placentia Ave, between Chapman and Nutwood. Galaxy (ex roller rink and badass music venue, now Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall) was on Gilbert just north of Commonwealth. Another 80's music place was Big John's Billiards, right on the eastern border of Fullerton and Anaheim.
ReplyDeleteBefore it was Ichabods, it was called Pinwinnie's Iron Foundry. Males had to be 21 yrs. old, but Females had to be just 18! This was in the late 60's, early 70's. It was THE place to go for all the college girls before they turned 21. Great memories.
ReplyDeleteTo the posters that said the club was called "Goodies", it was not. Goodies was on Placentia just south of Yorba Lina Blvd, in the parking lot of Target next to Don Jose.
ReplyDeleteGoodies became "Club 8 1/2" then closed down for a while before opening up as a mexican mariachi club, which is how it remains today.
yes it is ichabods use to go there wed thru sunday nights started going here at 18 some of my best memories are going there. there was a guy that went there that we nicknamed mr macho, then there was emanual, jake, george,oh ya dave, those were the days
ReplyDeleteIt must have been 1979 when when my friend Bob approached a youg babe in the Ichabod's parking lot, attempting to engage in small talk. He mentioned her tight nylon gym shorts and she replied, "Suck mud, you f---ing dick!" as she walked away. ... Ah..Orange County memories. So it's not surprising that, judging by the comments above, most of the people who frequented the place are either too dumb to spell the name correctly, or were (and still are) too drunk or stoned most of the time to realize that it was not Goodies, which was about 2 miles northeast of there.
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I used to go to Pinwinnies in the late '60's and early '70's. Our favorite band was Churchill... the dance floor was "tight" and the music was LOUD. We'd go every Thursday night and the parking lot was packed. The good old days for sure!
ReplyDeleteIt was originally called The Hamburger House. Now it is a Burger King that sells cold burgers and stale fries. Ichabods was cool !! I saw a lot of bands there. There was also one in Santa Ana.
ReplyDeleteLoved Ichabod's and was a regular from 79-81. Was a big fan of Knocker, one of the cover bands that played there regularly. But Ichabod's really made a name for itself when they started their New Wave Night on Sundays. Saw so many great bands there. I still have many copies of the Fullertone newsletter.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for pictures of Pinwinnies Iron Foundry 1969-72. Mostly the bands Ready Mix and Churchill.

I actually played shows at Ichabod's back in the day.My band at the time(in 1984)was partly responsible for the club closing at that last show-part because we overdrew the attendance limit and also because during our last show at the club someone was stabbed in the neck at the front area of the club or outside and they did not call police fast enough and the victim died. The city and county later filed charges and closed the club for good.I was playing onstage and had no idea anything had happened until the next day when I returned to the club to reclaim my Drums that I had left there overnight. If you were at that show, you know who the band was.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear that Ichabods in Fullerton went down so hard. I was the Disc Jockey there in 78 and 79. Knocker was one of my favs. How about Frenzy? they rocked! Any one know what happened to 45 Jones??? Charlie @:)
ReplyDeleteThere was a new wave club called gecko's at Lemon and Orangethorpe.
ReplyDeleteMet my wife there is April 1977. We were married in Nov. 1978 and still together. I was a student at CA. State Fullerton at the time and remember their always having a full page ad in the Daily Titan. A great place!
ReplyDeleteI remember traveling to Pennwinnes from Yorba Linda in 1970 with my neighbor who was hired to do some sort of art work on the walls in black light paint. His name was Bill Herzog was a Junior at Valencia High school at the time. Also anybody remember the head shop on the second floor of the what is now the Pacific Christian college on Nutwood ave. across from cal state Fullerton.
ReplyDeleteDo you remember a band named Eulogy? They played there in 1980 or 81. The lead guitarist, Rusty Anderson later became the lead guitarist for Paul McCartney.
ReplyDeleteJust a (UBI) useless bit of information.
Met my wife closing Pinwinnies, circa 1970. It must have become Ichabods later. Remember Tuesday Nite, all you can eat Spaghetti for 25 cents, yes 25 cents. Still married to same gal, spaghetti got better.
ReplyDeleteWho remembers The Velvet Hog, over in the Titan Center, before it bacame a Christian Center. It was the opening act for Pinwinnies later on.
Suburban Lawns, Cramps, Gun Club, MIA, Social D. REM (opening for the Untouchables), Blood onthe Saddle, Tex and the Horseheads and many more played there.
