Mississippi Moonshine in Anaheim

OCThen reader Jim T asks about an old friend named "Mississippi Joe" who worked at the Mississippi Moonshine in Anaheim...

I'm tyring to locate an old friend of mine nicknamed "Mississippi Joe" that worked as a bartender at the Mississippi Moonshine on Katella Ave. in Anaheim, CA back in the mid to late 80's. If you know his whereabouts, please contact me at jamest4us@yahoo.com. I used to play pool and chess with Joe and he was quite a character. Later he worked at a bar called Cheers West that was located in the Hotel 6 in Anaheim.

I believe the Mississippi Moonshine was between Harbor and Clementine, next to the Super 8 Motel. Now it's the Anaheim Gardenwalk parking structure.

  4. I hung out there for a time and sorry I do not remember "Joe". I remember "Pespi" the bartender, who was very handsome. His real name was John. He got the name Pespi due to his job before. He delivered Pespi. Wish I could help, I have often wondered why the bar shut down and what ever happened to Pespi.

  7. I remember Pepsi too. Also, there was an older gentleman who used to give me Angels tickets that drove I believe a powder blue mercedes, but don't remember his name. Ray B. owned and operated JoMar Printing right next door, and he was a real character, often wonder what happened to him. I often wonder about the Moonshine, and am sorry to hear it is gone.

  12. A friend and I went up to Anaheim a few times while stationed at Camp Pendleton in the mid 80's and stayed in a motel right next to the Mississippi Moonshine. Loved that place! Don't let the name fool you. It may have sounded like a country bar, but rock music reverberated from the walls and it had an awesome dance floor. Never went to the bar. Always sat in the booths next to dance floor and servers brought the drinks. Sweet memories.
