Your First Kiss in Orange County

Anonymous recalls her first kiss in Orange County, along with other assorted memories...

I grew up in LaPalma attending Luther elementary, and Walker Jr. High, I lived 3 miles from Knotts Berry Farm and remember it prior to admission fees. The Graveyard with that beating heart was my favorite. The chapel with the glowing Jesus cards were cool too. Boysenberry anything is still my favorite. Our Brownies and Girl Scout troops would go often and always assembled at the Wagon Train for rest and relaxation. Other fond memories were penny candy at Stop n Go, Carls Jr., and riding our bikes to the beach. I had my first "real" kiss from a guy named "Manny" who is now a pastor. It rocked and happened at the Disneyland Hotel on a landing after we rode the Monorail over there. We snuck off from G.L.A.S.S. (Greater Los Angeles. . . ?) it was a church night at the park. Felt bad but a kiss I will remember the rest of my life. I was 13 and he was an older man of 17. My good friend Marys brother. I reside in Texas now and miss O.C. alot. The best years of my life were there. Would love to return and do often. Anyone know a David Taafe from Buena Park ? He lived in the San Marino st's...cannot remember which one. Kinda near Ralphs Market and Shakey's Pizza. I really cared for him and wondering what became of him. Annette, I will always cherish our memories of childhood!! Deanna you are my dear friend, and anyone remember "Crazy Clown", was it a myth or what....scared me!!!

  1. I remember some of those things, and I knew some of the Walker Jr High crowd. Did you know Linda Powell? Lots of people moved away but remember those times fondly.

  2. My first MEMORABLE Kiss in OC. I moved to OC from Long beach in 1967 and lived in various cities until moving out-of-state in 1995. It was a warm summer night (in the late 70's) at Buena Park Drive-in on Linclon. Greg, Kelly and I where in the back of Greg's pick-up, Kelly passed out from drinking too much Boone's Farm Stawberry Hill, Carlos, passed-out in the cab from puffin too much Ah-for-sure! LOL. Greg and I were watching "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" - I remember to this very day - 30+ years later - the sweet, warm, tender look in Greg's eyes when his met mine. (If the story be told properly- Greg and I had had hidden feelings for one another for quite some time but did not want to break-up the wonderful friendship that the four of us shared < TGKC >) Anyway, that kiss began my (first-true-love)relationship.

  3. In regards to the original post - Crazy Clown. Was that the rumors about some guy dressed up as a clown that was going around and kidnapping children? If so, I remember those rumors well - and they scared the (*&#$ out of me just thinking about it!

  6. GLASS stands for Greater Los Angeles Sunday School. They are now called CMTA (Christian Ministries Training Association). I think they used to have an annual convention. My dad was a youth pastor at Calvary Church Santa Ana for many years and I remember him and other church staff attending the conference.

  7. I remember going to GLASS night at Disneyland in 1969 (ninth grade). I got one of my first kisses on the dark section of "Pirates of the Carribean" (right before the water slide portion). I'm now married to the same guy that gave me the kiss (33 years of marriage). We married in 1976 at the Garden Grove Orthodox Presbyterian Churuch besides Sunnyside Elementary School.

  10. Halloween 1980. I was 15-years old (just turned 15 the day before) and was working at my first job as a Hostess at Colony Kitchen in San Juan Capistrano. After work, we all went to a party in San Clemente. I had a crazy crush on an 18-year old fry cook, Jim Strong. After the party, he drove me to my friend's house and we made out for what seemed like hours! He had green face paint on and when I took a look in a mirror, I was covered in it! I'll never forget that night. :)
