Anyone Remember This Steakhouse?

An anonymous OCThen reader asks if anyone can remember the name of a steakhouse in La Habra during the 1970s...

Does anyone remember a steak resaturant in La Habra in the 1970's near the intersection of Beach Blvd & Lambert Road? Mr. Steer's or Mr. Stein's sounds familiar, but no one in my family can remember. I believe they had a white steer character in front of the restaurant like Bob's Big Boy. It ws next to the existing Carl's Jr. & Del Taco restaurant.

  1. my family stayed at a motel near that restaurant while we were waiting for our house to be finished in Buena Park. Late 60's.
I can't remember the name as I was in 2nd grade, but I remember eating there, and the bovine out front. I work with someone who grew up in that area and I'll check with him this week. If he knows, I'll post it.

  2. It was called the Steak and Stein.
It had very good food with some unusual items on the menu. Once my husband ordered the Turkey Nuts (on a bet, and yes that was exactly what it sounds like) He said they were good but he never ordered them again. It was a place that had live soft music, (piano mostly) nightly. I miss the old piano bar restaurants.

  3. Carly,
I don't think that is right. Steak and Stein was and is off the 605 freeway and Whittier Blvd. Went there many many times.
I do remember the big steer, just not the name.
    Sorry

  5. Ok, I made the call and you are right it is not the Steak and Stein it was Trapper's Inn. Trappr's was on Harbor Blvd and the one on Beach Blvd was the Silver Saddle. Steak and Stein was off the 605, so oops.

  8. Yes, but there was "Mr. Steak", I think it was on Beach between Lambert and Imperial. It was a real treat for our family to go there. I loved it.

  10. The Trapper's Inn was a fabulously rustic prime rib restaurant located on the southern portion of property eventually taken over by a now closed Ford dealership on Harbor Blvd. In family archive photos dating way back to the 1950s, the Tapper's Inn appeared to be an upscale eatery that featured a "wood panaled and stuffed animal on the wall atmosphere", complete with a fireplace and a Hudson Bay trapper's menu. This was decades before the genre of Ruth's Chris or Morton's and represented a fine dining La Habra restaurant of the past.

  12. Chris & Pitt's is still there in Anaheim on Euclud. I think it might be the last location. There was talk last year that it might close. The outside has been redone but the inside looks & feels like you've stepped back in time.

  13. I visited Chris & Pitts in Anaheim just a few months ago. The outside had been remodeled but inside it looked like it hadn't been updated since the 70's. Shiny upholstery & lots of wood paneling. It's a bit of a time machine. I was surprised how many people were there, seems to still be pretty popular. I also remember Luv's bbq restaurants.

  15. I seem to recall a steakhouse next to Red's equipment rental (Lambert and Beach) back in the late 70's/early 80's called the Cattlemen's Ranch, or something like that. It was both a steakhouse and a dance club back in those days, and my parents went there several times with us kids at home with a babysitter. It has since changed names several times. There is a small mexican food place next door to it now.
