I don't believe that JPII did visit OC.
I do however recall reading in the Diocesan paper that when one of OC's Bishops (I believe Todd Brown) visited the Vatican, JPII asked him whether they still grew any oranges in OC!

In the 80's I was a member of a parish in Huntington Beach, and was given two tickets (chosen through a lottery) to see Pope John Paul II at the Coloseum in LA. We met attendees from other OC parishes at a Cypress church and were bussed to the mass.
