With the closing of military bases at El Toro and Tustin, comes the question, what will be done with the land that has now become available. While contractors see it as more "Prime" land to build multi million dollar homes, military groups lean towards a military museum that will include preserving the 18 story blimp hangers. This week a group submitted plans to refurbish one hanger and build four motocross tracks. It is now in the hands of Tustin City officials to decide. With many building in the County being designated as historical sites protecting them from demolition, can at least one of these hangers be saved? Orange County sent many brave Marines to fight for our Country, just because the bases were closed does not mean we should tear down our memories!

I am all for a motocross track at the hanger. Not only will it bring a consistent source of revenue to the city it will also reduce the amount of people having to travel out of the county to ride. It will also help in reducing pollution as most people that go to the out of county tracks, drive trucks & SUV's, that as we all know do generate more emissions. In my opinion shortening the travel distance to ride will reduce emissions and at the same time will help in preserving an historical military site that was built to preserve our freedoms that so many brave men died for.
ReplyDeleteA motocross track would give people a place to ride besides out in illigal areas were there could be hazzards such as a cable going across a path to mark off someones property. This will lead to fatalities such as decapitation. Something we do not want for anyone of the county. More places need to be set up to ride. The tracks would give youth and adult crowds alike a place to ride and be, it would bring a good hobby and recreation to much of the youthful population to help prevent idleness which will lead to drug use and obeseness. Two things that should be avoided as much as possible. The motocross tracks are the best idea for the use of the land and hangers.
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible idea. My sons and I forego many family bike rides due to the distance that must be traveled to enjoy the sport. There is not one track available in Orange County. Obviously there are many who do not share the sentiment of riding, but to them I say - no noise - no dust - revenue generation - historical preservation. What a WIN-WIN proposition.
ReplyDeleteThis would be the greatest thing since saddleback. We need it. oc has a ton of land and not one track. I put on 200 miles a week to take my son riding. We would love a track here.I think the whole property would make a great race complex.
ReplyDeleteOrange County needs a motocross track. It would be a very good use of the space and would cut down on the drivetime for the thousands that love to go riding.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the other comments- the revenue should be consistent and less cars travelling out of the county is always a good thing.
It would be great not to have to travel an hour + to go riding!
That would be a great idea because ever since Saddlback MX closed down people have to drive 1-2 hours away just to ride. This would give the kids in Orange County another hobby to help keep them out of trouble. There are a lot of people out here that do ride and its a great way to make money. Orange County does have a lot of land that has no use so why dont we put it to use.
ReplyDeleteI like this idea a lot, and would hate to see the hangars go - they're such a landmark. However given that as of now (Aug 2005) the demolition of the base is proceeding rapidly, I guess this will not happen.
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime, I believe there is a motocross track of some kind off Santiago Canyon, next to Irvine Lake.
I think one it should be turned into a paintball park....there isnt one with 30 minutues of Irvine. I think it would draw a huge crowd, and be worth while and fun.
ReplyDeleteThis would be a great idea. Too bad the motorcycle companies don't help us out and fight to get this! They'd probably sell more bikes. I've learned in politics the peoples voices aren't heard, but the corporations dollars are! I'd like to get a new bike, but instead I'm ready to sell mine because I'm tired of driving hours away and the gas it takes to get there.
ReplyDeleteGuess I'll take up knitting!
i beleve that turning it into a motocross park would be awesome. we have to drive 1-2 hours just ride for 3 and drive another 2. Also it would bring in a lot of revenue for the city and lets the city keep the hanger up
ReplyDeleteA MOTOCROSS TRACK IN ORANGE COUNTY WOULD BE WONDERFUL.THIS IS SOMETHING MY WHOLE FAMILY ENJOYS AND CREATES WONDERFUL OUTLETS FOR KIDS IN THE COMMUNITY AS WELL AS FAMILY TIME.THIS IS SOMETHING WE NEED!!!!

ReplyDeleteYes please, pease, please, MOTOCROSS TRACK, heck yea, we need one around our area. that would be awesome to hat around here.
ReplyDeletedont put 1 there! not a good area it would be better to make a millitary musuem at least then it would have the past in it and it would be more appreciated to the elderly people
ReplyDeletewot a stupid idea dun even get me started!
ReplyDeleteGood People, Clean Fun, and Family Bonding is the Motocross Way. More than just riding, and that is what this county needs. Less Commuting, less pollution and more preservation of our deserts and forests. Definetely a WIN WIN solution. I would pay the price to go, better than giving my money to the oil companies to get out of town.

ReplyDeleteThis is the website to continue to fight to keep this Hangar alive.
We need to continue to spread the word, otherwise the Tustin City Council will laugh in our face. Voices need to be heard, numbers need to be raised in order for this to come to fruition.
This is a Win-Win situation, yet the TCC has no clue what it means to have a hobby other than knitting and reading. They're all old and out of shape.
I feel that not only creating this motocross park will keep kids like myself out of trouble at night, but help us make more friends that have the same hobbies. Let’s face it, Tustin is kind of a boring place to live as a teenager, instead of going out partying at night with my friends I know for a fact that my friends and I would rather be riding if we had a track right down the street. We are all sick of driving 2-4 hours to go ride our bikes, especially on weeknights. If there was a track here most kids would just go and hang out their; ride, watch or even work their. At Perris Raceway(2&1/2HRS) each night there is tons of kids just hanging out and riding that live right down the street. I know that most of you think it is a bad idea to build a motocross track, but I guarantee none of you have ever set foot on a dirt bike and experienced the freedom and feeling you get. Most of us all grew up with our families doing this, and it is something really special to most of us that ride. My grandfather was in WWII and he is the one that got my family into this hobby. I told him that they were thinking of building a mx track their and he was excited that he would finally get to see me ride. What a great place to build a track where men were trained to fight for our country and give back to the community, not only would it change my life but many others like myself. WE DO NOT NEED ANYMORE HOUSES OR CONDOS OR TOWN HOMES OR EVEN SHOPING CENTERS… We all ready have enough here. Just more people up to Know good…
ReplyDeleteThAT WOULD BE SWEET...
ReplyDeleteI WOULD STOP GANGBANGING IF I COULD DRIVE AROUND THE CORNER TO RIDE MY QUAD....
