Robert David Hall who is seen Thursday Nights on CSI playing Las Vegas Coroner Al Robbins, was a 1964 graduate of Tustin High School. Although he was born and raised on the East Coast, his family moved to Tustin near the end of his sophomore year. He also lists a job at Disneyland on his resume like Steve Martin. These are just two OC alum who have made it in show business. My list includes: Diane Keaton, Kevin Costner, Annette Benning, Michelle Pfeiffer, and who can forget The Righteous Brothers, Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. Do you have anyone to add to the list???

Well, Crystral Lewis and the old group Love Song. Crystral Lewis is famous in Christian music. The members of the former group love song no longer live in OC, but they were apart of the so-called Jesus Music that make up a lot of the contemporary christian songs that many churches now use.
ReplyDeleteCuba Gooding Jr. was also a student at Tustin High School.
ReplyDeleteGwen Stefani and No Doubt
ReplyDeleteChina Iwata who went to Hoover Elem in the late '70s has done extensive work as an assistant property master in the movies (Legally Blonde, Mr 3000, Last Holiday, Mothman Prophecies) and for tv series like Alias.
ReplyDeleteWill Ferrell! He went to Uni High in Irvine around the same time I was at Irvine High. Also Susan Egan, the Broadway actress; she went to the OC Performing Arts High School around the same time. And both have South Coast Rep backgrounds: Will was in the Young Conservatory and I remember seeing Susan in Sunday In The Park With George there in the late 80's.
ReplyDeleteI understand actress Lynn-Holly Johnson of "For Your Eyes Only" fame went to Saddleback College, which would mean she lived in OC for a while. She was named alumnus of the year in 2006.
ReplyDeleteI heard that Marlon Brando also attended Santa Ana High in the 30's ..... can anyone verify this?
ReplyDeleteI sold girl scout cookies to the Rightous Brothers in 1964, they were staying in some apts. right by our apt in Anaheim near Orangewood and I went to the door and one of them bought several boxes of cookies from me. I heard they were playing at Melodyland or Disneyland then.
ReplyDeleteSuch a nice memory I have of that.

Both Harry Anderson (Night Court) and Steven Seagal went to Buena Park High School. And, I remember one of the girls from the *New* Mickey Mouse Club in the 1970's lived across Malvern from me in Buena Park. I want to say her name was Allison?!?

DeleteJackson Browne went to Sunny Hills HS, probably class of 65 or so.
ReplyDeleteThe Foo Fighter's drummer Taylor Hawkins grew up in Laguna Beach. I almost rented a room he used to rent- they used it as a selling point! haha!
ReplyDeleteI went to school with Gwen Stefani from No Doubt. She sat across from me in ceramics class. I remember she seemed shy and didnt really look anything like she does now!
ReplyDeleteSinger Jennifer Warnes ("I've Had the Time of My Life," "Up Where We Belong," etc.) and actor Bob Gunton went to Mater Dei in the 1960s.
ReplyDeleteTerry Rossio, the screenwriter of "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Shrek," "Mask of Zorro," and many other hit movies, lived in Santa Ana, and attended McFadden Intermediate School and Saddleback High School.
ReplyDeleteI remember STEVE MARTIN & STORMIE OMARTIAN: WHILE ATTENDING "Wagon Masters", a singing quartet that performed (for free) Country Folk music at Knott's Berry Farm, in an out-door amphitheater surrounded by covered wagons. Of the 4, I remember 2 of them... STEVE MARTIN, who was the funny guy, playing the BANJO like no other! The female singer was STORMIE OMARTIAN, BEST-SELLING AUTHOR of at least 30 Christian books.(Check her out at www.stormieomartian.com)
ReplyDeleteBTY: I had purchased one of their record albums, which they autographed for me. If I could only find it again, think of what it might go for on ebay!
Do you happen to know if that's Michelle Pfeiffer's real name? There was a girl that lived down the street from me in Santa Ana that would have looked a lot like Michelle Pfeiffer when she grew up.
ReplyDeleteBrando went to Lathrope Jr. High in Santa Ana, and Jennifer Warnes attended Pepito & Joanne's Dance School in Santa Ana (my wife was there with her)
ReplyDeleteMy Mom and Dad went to High School with Steve Martin at Garden Grove High School in the early 60's. One year Steve Martin was running for class something. He ran around school one day with a bra on and a sign that said, "Lend me your support!" Funny then, funny now.
ReplyDeleteVictory Tischler-Blue from the 1970s all girl band The Runaways that also featured Joan Jett and Lita Ford grew up in what is now North Tustin and went to Foothill High School. She's now directing and producing feature films.
ReplyDeleteSandy West who was the drummer for the Runaways grew up in Huntington Beach. She died from cancer in 2006. RIP
ReplyDeleteI saw the Runaways at the Golden Bear and they rocked!
The surf band The Chantays went to school in Santa Ana. I think the school renamed a street in their honor. Their one and only hit "Pipeline" accompanies a lot of surfing scenes.
ReplyDeleteHarriet Nelson from the 50's show "Ozzie and Harriet" lived in Laguna Beach for many years.
John Lovitz went to UCI and got his Masters of Fine Arts there.
I went to school with Vicky Tischler, Elem-HS !
ReplyDeleteDeDee Pfeiffer (sister of Michelle) went to Ocean View High School, I had PE with her back in 80 or 81. Jason Lee (My Name is Earl) also went to Ocean View. He was in my brother's graduating class, 1986. Wikipedia is a good site to see who went to a school.
ReplyDeleteI lived in Orange in '63 and '64 while in high school. Bobby Hatfield lived about a block away in the same apartments. My girlfriend and I would see him. The high school was over crowded and they had split schedules. We (the senior class) got to go to the morning session. Then we had all afternoon to play - we loved it.
ReplyDeleteMARLON BRANDO WENT TO LATHROP JR HIGH IN SANTA ANA CALIF. It wa in the 40's as he was born in April 1924. I attended Lathrop a few years later. No one spoke of him but there was a very large oil portrait of him hanging in the foyer. He was told he would not succeed and this was his way of saying that he did. He brought it after his winning an award for his acting. I am happy to see the other post on here stating he went to Lathrop. Yes affirmative.
ReplyDeleteJim Fassel, former New York Giants head coach, graduated from Anaheim High 1967.
ReplyDeleteMy father owned several drive ins and restaurants throughout Orange County. I remember seeing local boys Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield performing at Jon's Black Derby on South Main in Santa Ana.
ReplyDeleteAm looking for any memorabilia from Hall's Drive Ins, Jon's Coffee Shop or Jon's Black Derby.
Dear Anonymous ... hello ... trying to gather into for a possible biography of Bobby and Bill. How can I contact you
Deletefor information on them - that would be great in a book. My first meeting with Bobby and Bill was in San Jose, CA in 1962/1963. They sang at John Drive-In and we ended up at McDonald's where Bobby bought cheeseburgers for everyone. How do I get an address where to write to you ? Thanks, Roger
Christensen, San Diego, CA
My mother worked for awhile in the 60s waitressing at Bobby Hatfield's fathers's luncheonette. She also waited on them at the Elk's club (Bobby was a member) She got an autograph for me on the cover of one of their 45s. I have it pasted firmly in my scrapbook of that era, but no clue where the record went.

Robert David Hall of CSI is coming out with a country western type CD this summer and should be playing some small venues in LA/OC such as Boulevard Music in Culver City and somewhere is South OC.
ReplyDeleteClaudia Christian was in my math class at Laguna Beach High but then she was known as Claudia Coglin (sp?). Her real name is not listed on Wikipedia.
ReplyDeletePatrick Stuart, now going by James Patrick Stuart also went to Laguna Beach High. He was in drama of course. My biggest memory of him is how he lost his high school sweetheart, a girl named Sundae, close to graduation time. She died in a tragic car accident.
ReplyDeleteHis father is very connected. In the music industry I think. Likely helped him land his first jobs.
yes, cuba was at tustin high in 1984. not many of us remember him being there. matt lillard is also from tustin, along with mark grace (ths class of 82) who played first base for the chicago cubs and arizona diamondbacks for 16 years.

Barbara Hershey went to Sunny Hills High. Al Rabowsky (sp?) went to Savanna. He pitched Pro baseball (don't remember the team(s).) and was nicknamed "The Mad Hungarian". Terry Lamb was the King of Art when I was at Savanna. He went on to become a pretty bigtime illustrator. He did the Indiana ones posters and a lot of other stuff you all have probably seen. His low point in illustration became when he did all those creepy Joe Camel ads. Rick Griffin was another famous illustrator from Savanna. He did surf (Remember Murphy?)and later Zap Comics style stuff. He was before my time so info about him is spotty and unconfirmed, except for the kinds of work he made.
ReplyDeleteBoulder Landry taught at Savanna (anyone remember his whip demonstrations?) and was supposedly Coach Landry's brother.
